Gautham Menon’s short film, Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn, which was filmed during the nationwide lockdown, released on May 20th. The short film is a continuation to the Vinnaithandi Varuvaya, featuring Trisha and Simbu in the lead roles.
The 12-minute-long short film is a slice of Karthik (Simbu) and Jessie’s (Trisha) life from Vinnaithandi Varuvaya. The former is a struggling filmmaker and is shaken by the pandemic and undergoes a writer’s block. Karthik decides to connect back to his first love, Jessie!
Sharing the YouTube link of the short film, Gautham Menon took to Twitter to thank the team. He wrote, “So very thankful to the names involved in this effort and especially amidst these testing times. There’s hope, there is love and there’s a beautiful future. Love to all! (sic).”
As soon as Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn released, it brought back memories of the trio’s iconic romantic film, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya. The short film, which is now going viral on social media, has been receiving mixed reviews from the critics and audience alike.
The short film is trending at number 1 on YouTube. Within 24 hours, the short film has over 2 million views with 127,000 likes!
The short film was shot at Simbu and Trisha’s respective homes with the help of their families. Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn has music scored by AR Rahman, who had composed the tunes for Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya in 2010.
