Actor and director Nandita Das has released a short film titled Listen To Her to highlight the surge in cases of domestic violence as a result of the lockdown. The 7 minute film is supported by UNESCO, UNFPA, UNICEF, UN Women and the South Asia Foundation (Madanjeet Singh Foundation).
The short film was penned, directed and produced by the actress herself. Nandita assays the role of a woman working from home who fields constant interruptions from her husband and son, as she is trying to balance a work conference call. It is then that she receives a call from a victim of domestic abuse.
According to Nandita, the film is a spontaneous response to the irony of “STAY HOME, STAY SAFE” for millions of women in India and around the world. It reminds all that speaking up is only possible when women know that someone is listening.
