A father and son who were allegedly killed during their custody at Sathankulam, Tuticorin police station on 19th June. Jayaraj, 60, and Bennicks, 30, were arrested by 2 Sub- Inspectors for allegedly violating the lockdown rules.
The two allegedly extended the business hours of their mobile shop beyond what was allowed. They were interrogated in the police station by immense torture, which included sexual assaul during their imprisonment from 19th June to 23rd June.
On 22nd June, Bennicks died at Kovilpatti General Hospital after complaining of chest pain while Jayaraj breathed his last on 23rd June in the same hospital. The inhuman treatment by the police on Jayaraj and Bennicks has created fury and disapproval among the citizens and celebrities of Tamil Nadu.
Actress Sanam Shetty has filed a complaint at the Human Rights Commission of India to investigate the gruesome death of Jayaraj and Bennicks.
Actor Suriya is the latest to join the list. He has released a compelling press statement to condemn the act and for more serious action to be taken upon the police officers.
