Director Mani Ratnam and his film crew have come under fire after shooting at the Kovalam beach.
It seems that the crew of Chekka Chivantha Vaanam littered the Kovalam beach with glass and did not clean up after shooting an action scene. Several online sources claimed that glass shards and metal shells were found on the beach after shooting on April 24.
However, representatives from Madras Talkies – the production company that belongs to director Mani Ratnam and his wife – rubbished the claims and said they have always cleaned up well after shooting.
The Madras Talkies representative said the crew cleaned up on the same day and they cannot be held accountable for the pre-existing condition of the beach.
Showkath Jamal, a lawyer who runs a surf school, ran a clean-up operation on the beach with his wife and some volunteers. “This is unacceptable.. Film crews should ensure they don’t litter especially on a beach and clean-up the area after they are done,” New Indian Express quoted him as saying.
