Cooking enthusiast S.Pavithra from the famed SuguPavithra channel is a force to be reckoned with!

A week after receiving the ‘Silver Play Button’ for surpassing the 100,000 subscribers milestone, influential Malaysian YouTuber Pavithra has been elevated further by being recognised as ‘Ipoh City Icon 2020′ by Ipoh City Mayor Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin.

A great acknowledgement indeed for the 28-year-old who has captured millions of hearts for her humility and amazing cooking skills.

The mother of two who hails from Buntong, Perak deserves the exclusive tittle as she had become instantly recognisable and even caught the attention of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin since she began uploading cooking videos on YouTube.

Pavithra, along with her husband M. Sugu, who together manage the YouTube channel shot to fame in March during the movement control order (MCO) when Malaysians stayed at home and started to experiment cooking recipes by the couple.

“We will accord recognition to every Ipoh-born, like Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh previously. The city council is honest in its recognition of Pavithra because she is well known and many are now following the couple’s cooking recipes,” Rumaizi told a press conference today.

He said that apart from Pavithra, the council had also identified 100 individuals from various backgrounds such as entrepreneurship, arts, civil service and teaching, who would be awarded with the title in stages.

“The 32nd Ipoh City Day celebration this year cannot be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so we will award them officially at next year’s celebration,” the mayor further said.

Meanwhile, Pavithra thanked the subscribers for making their channel possible and also acknowledged the person responsible for introducing YouTube to them. On the other hand, SuguPavithra has garnered nearly 800,000 subscribers to date.

In endorsing the city council’s choice in Pavithra as ‘Ipoh City Icon’, Rumaizi said that the main criteria for being selected is to be a Ipohite. “Also, she has made a name on YouTube,” he added, as he presented the couple with a hamper and other gifts.

Well done Pavithra! Continue to be an inspiration.
