Tamil cinema has been a prolific industry throughout the years, delivering a plethora of excellent actors. Although many of them have been known as successful performers, some may only be looked upon as the most overlooked actors in Kollywood, taking into account the last few years.

Intriguingly, a few of Tamil’s most underrated actors happen to be also the most well known actors, but have yet to receive accolades for their talent in Kollywood cinematic, unlike that of their much more famous colleagues such as Vijay, Surya, Vijay Sethupathi and the list goes on.

So the concern here is, will they ever be remembered as good actors with an absolutely stellar range of acting abilities?

Arvind Swamy

Arvind Swamy has indeed been nearly forgotten until Thani Oruvan ‘s release. Doubtless prior to staring in Thani Oruvan and in Bogan, it has opened the doors unleashing the actor back on the screens.
He was once the heartthrob of many ladies in the 90’s era after his romantic debut in Mani Ratnam’s movie Roja, acting alongside Madhubala. He has an ability to seize the screen given any roles, from playing a corporate world villain to a local thug or a loving father, he has outdone it with staggering performance ever since his comeback into the tamil film industry.

Vishnu Vishal

Giving a thrilling performance in his role in Ratchasan, playing a cop trying to solve a mystery case while determined to save his family was a hit for this actor. Vishnu Vishal is an often overlooked actor. He is one of the actors in the industry that is keen on trying out content films but due to circumstances, he does commercial flicks to keep his name alive on screens.

He has also made mildly amusing commercial films such as Velainu Vanthutha Velakkaran, Katha Nayagan and is endeavouring to balance between content based serious films with entertainment focused films.

MS Bhaskar

Tamil cinema is well known in building a strong story arch for supporting characters in the films. Amid the inclusion of mass heroes, we can see a spectrum of supporting actors shine even in major films. One of the unexpected achievements this decade has been the success of MS Bhaskar.

Whenever he appears in most films, he successfully grabs the spotlight every time. In his recent movie 8 Thottakkal, MS Bhaskar was the movie’s soul. Not only did he play a part in the plot, but he held the entire film on his own, showcasing his versatility!

Bobby Simha

A National Award actor who has performed outstandingly in the Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam movie industry and yet is scarcely known. He’s done some pretty good movies in Pizza, Soodhu Kavvum, Neram and Jigarthanda gaining a good amount of support from fans for his acting.

His character as a Madurai mobster Sethu in Karthik Subbaraj’s movie was unquestionably awe-inspiring. Upon receiving a prestigious award for Best Supporting Actor, he still sits on the periphery and is hardly seen on the screens.

Prasanna

Prasanna who is mostly doing supporting roles, now believes these roles are like a detour, that would inevitably guide him to the spot he intends to make which is a lead hero. He has proven his mettle portraying negative roles in his recent movie Mafia, and made a debut in a film called Nibunan, which was a pretty decent, fast-paced film, but it didn’t reach out to the audience that much.

Prasanna has also acted in few tamil films that didn’t make a hit in Kollywood, but made a huge reach when it was remade in other languages.

Prithviraj

Prithviraj is such a formidable and brilliant actor. He can play almost any role, as required by the script. His parts in films such as Mozhi, Ennu Ninte Moideen, Paavada and Amar Anthony Akbar have been few of his best movies in his league.

He has played a significant part in candy boys, gritty action roles and even villainous roles, all highly appreciated. In fact, Prithvi’s also a wonderful playback singer. Currently he is only making debuts in Mollywood due to the well recognition he gets there.

The list embraces thESE very talented actors who may have not garnered enough accolades for their accomplishments alone, as they should have.

The list has actors of those who have failed to establish themselves as intriguing actors, despite having the potential to develop into amazing actors in the industry.

The writer believes such actors should be given the necessary and deserving recognition. Its about time!
