Purattasi is the month that is very special and auspicious to Lord Vishnu. It usually falls on mid-Sep and goes on till mid-Oct. The entire duration of the month is known as one of the most propitious times of the year according to holy scriptures.

This is due to the presence of Lord Vishnu at this time as he was present on Earth to protect the world at the end of Kali Yuga.

Devotees of Lord Vishnu honour him for protecting the world from Kali Yuga as they converge at his temple offering gratitude, garning blessings. Flags with symbols of Garuda are raised at the respective temples once the Purattasi month begins.

Devotees of Lord Venkateswara perform Purattasi Vrat during Purattasi. The devotees restrict themselves strictly from consuming any meat, and food is cooked only in vegetarian pots that were never used to cook meat.

Some, often fast on saturdays by not consuming any form of food or water, performing Nirjala Vratam. On Purattasi saturdays, hymns dedicated to Lord Vishnu are sung along with bhajans celebrating this festive month of Lord Vishnu.

It is believed in this period, Lord Saneeswaran loses his power, so it’s easier for people to get away from his harmfulness by offering maavilakku to Lord Vishnu and the navagraha to gain more blessings.

The carbon produced from the rice flour and cow’s ghee when lit up, is proven theoretically to eliminate all harmful radiation from the household. Hence, devotees could carry out these rituals to be able to reap the amazing benefits.
