If there’s one sport that is really making headlines in the country of late, it has to be none other than badminton!

S.Kisona and M.Thinaah were among the big names who qualified for the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals which is slated to be held in Aarhus, Denmark from October 3rd to 11th. Interestingly, this happens to be the very first time for Thinaah to make it to the prestigious event, while Kisona on the other hand debuted at the 2018 Uber Cup in Bangkok. Oh, how proud we are of them!

It was originally scheduled to be held from May 16th to 24th but was postponed to August 15th to 23rd before finally rescheduling the matches in October due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite a show of grit and determination, our Malaysian team are performing admirably at the international level.

Malaysia has definitely gained international recognition in the badminton arena over the years, producing the likes of Datuk Lee Chong Wei and many more. Its hopeful and encouraging to perhaps see the two young women smash a record and make history in their chosen field of sport.

The national women’s squad also face a daunting task in the Uber Cup after being drawn in Group B, dubbed the ‘Group of Death’, as they will have three-time champion Indonesia, two-time runner-up South Korea and minnows Australia for company.

The national team has gloriously left a mark in the sport by winning the Thomas cup five times in the year 1949, 1952, 1955, 1967 and 1992.
