Malaysia is currently entering into the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, surfacing after the recovery phase due to the high spikes of Covid-19 cases in the country. The directive notification relevant to this is rendered pursuant to the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act 1988 and the Police Act 1967.

Foreign Nationals From 23 Countries are currently not PerMITTED tO Enter Malaysia due to this deadly virus!

On 1st September, the Ministry of Immigration had issued a ban against citizens of India, Indonesia and the Philippines entering Malaysia from 7th September onwards.

Since the ban on citizens from those three countries, another 20 countries have been added to the list, making it a total of 23 countries, they are:

  1. US
  2. Brazil
  3. India
  4. Russia
  5. Peru
  6. Colombia
  7. South Africa
  8. Mexico
  9. Spain
  10. Argentina
  11. Chile
  12. Iran
  13. UK
  14. Bangladesh
  15. Saudi Arabia
  16. Pakistan
  17. France
  18. Turkey
  19. Italy
  20. Germany
  21. Iraq
  22. Philippines
  23. Indonesia

The initial recovery movement control order (RMCO) was expected to end on 31st August 2020, unfortunately, this isn’t the case as most areas in the country have been put under an immediate CMCO due to rapidity of the Covid-19 virus outbreak.

Following advice from the Ministry of Health (MoH), the government made a decision to ensure that relevant Covid-19 proactive measures taken in the country were equally enforced on foreigners.

However, passport holders of listed regions travelling by air can transit through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), but aren’t allowed to pass through immigration gates, while Malaysians returning from abroad will be subject to strict quarantine.

The country is making immense effort to curb the outbreak with effective preventive measures. Hence, while SOPs might be the new normal for many of us, may we adhere well to it at the same time await a Covid-19 vaccine.

Stay safe, sanitise, wear a mask, practice safe social distancing and most importantly stay calm in the midst of this storm.
