Despite remarkable efforts by scientists around the world to find a cure or vaccine for the deadly Covid-19 virus, and doctors trying to enlighten patients about the do’s and don’ts to keep one free from the virus, there’s still much that we don’t understand and are all now part of a planet-wide experiment seeking answers.
Executive Director of Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre (Mabic), Dr. Mahaletchumy Arujanan urged the public to follow the SOPs and instructions implemented by the government in order to have a safe Deepavali as the city prepares to light up the festival with firecrackers, flower pots and sparklers.
Dr. Mahaletchumy has also emphasised the importance on seeking accurate information with regards to Covid-19 through the Science Media Centre Malaysia (SMC Malaysia), which is an online forum that provides factual and evidence-based information that journalists can use to report on challenging or divisive topics that make headlines.
The 51-year-old mother of two who hails from Klang, is also known as the founder and editor-in-chief of Malaysia’s first science newspaper, Petri Dish. Her name was listed among one of the world’s 100 most prominent people in biotechnology, by the Scientific American Worldview in 2015.
