Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

Hemarruben, who was born blind, had been through hell and back. Earlier, he was forced to quit his job as a pastry chef at a hotel and he knew it wasn’t going to be easy for him to look out for another job. The young man’s major concern was catering to the needs of his 76-year-old grandmother who has been staying with him for years.

Fortunately, Hemarruben met his childhood friend, Lim Zhi Min, 22, who advised him to make good use of his baking skills and start a home-based business. He took the advise of his well meant and concerned friend, and that decision happens to be one of the best he had ever made this year.

Hailing from Kampung Baru, Sungai Lalang, Hemarruben started to bake cookies and cakes since October. Now, he’s earning nearly RM 1k by selling those cookies and cakes. Moreover, during the festive season, he gets double the orders.

Hemarruben bakes an array of cakes with ingredients such as almonds, peanuts, green peas, biscuits with cornflakes and coconuts, sugar, marble butter, sugee, chocolate, mango, citrus, orange butter and coffee. With his friend’s assistance, Hemarruben delivers the cookies using PosLaju to his customers who are from Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah and Selangor .

When Hemarruben was a seven-month-old infant, he underwent his first eye operation on both eyes. He has minimal vision in his left eye while he completely lost sight of his right eye.

He is grateful for Lim’s guidance and affection. He would be in a much worst state had he not followed Lim’s advice to venture into his own baking business. He took a great leap of faith and did what he had to do in order to survive in this tough and harsh world, made worse by the global pandemic.

His ultimate Deepavali wish would be to expand his baking business by opening a bakery shop in his hometown.
