Losing a loved one profoundly affects people differently, and at this point in time, one really needs all the love, financial and emotional support they can get. Grieving for a very special loved one is harder than you think you may know or feel.

It’s important to note the other mishappenings that can severely effect the grieving. A family death can create problems concerning money and financial matters. Preparing and organising for the funeral itself can without a doubt cause financial stress to the family. Funerals certainly do not come cheap.

Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF / KWSP)

According to EPF, if a member has been pronounced dead, their family member may collect the EPF saving of the deceased and also obtain a one-time payout of RM2,500 under such conditions, hence to qualify one must fulfil the criteria below;

  • Malaysians (including permanent residents) or non-Malaysians below the age of 60 who is deceased.
  • The request must be submitted within 6 months after the death of the EPF contrubutor.
Public Service Department (Malaysia) JPA

If the deceased was an employed or unemployed civil servant, the recipient will receive RM3,000 under Bantuan Mengurus Jenazah.

The donation shall be made on the grounds of priority which goes to the widow, kids and family who is paying for the deceased funeral (requires Certificate of Oath) and the party responsible for the funeral (requires Certificate of Oath).

Social Security Organisation (Perkeso / Socso)

It’s a must for all the employees to be insured under the PERKESO programme. When a death occurs due to a job accident, up to RM 2000, the person paying for the funeral will receive funeral benefits.

Otherwise, if the covered person passes away before the age of 60 or was a receiver of the Invalidity Pension because of their age, dependents would receive Survivors’ Pension.

Skim Insurans Takaful Pelajar

This 24-hour day insurance policy runs for a full year for the student which entitles them to a claim of;

  • Accidental death-RM5,50000
  • A paralysis due to an accident-RM22,000,000
  • Loss of both hands/both feet/sights due to an accident-RM22,000 (RM10,000 for missing just one hand/feet/eyesight) for both eyes
  • Death from natural causes-RM1,500
  • Admitted to a public hospital due to an accident-RM25/day up to 60 days
  • Allowance for wheelchairs-RM1,000

This scheme applies only for students from either state or government-assisted institutions.

Bantuan Sara Hidup Tuntutan Skim Khairat Kematian (SKK)

For beneficiaries of the Bantuan Sara Hidup Rakyat (BSH) or Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) who had been declared dead between 1st January 2019 and 31st December 2019, their next of kin can demand RM1,000 from any Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) under Skim Khairat Kematian.

Penang State Government

Should a senior citizen above the age of 60 pass away, their next of kin will receive RM1,000. Make sure the senior citizen is registered under the Penang State Government and the person shall receive a RM100.
