How often do we see an all women tale on-screen, especially based on modern day Motherhood with a touch of feminism? We can only count on the number of such movies being premiered on our screens, right?

But, this time Tribhanga; a 90-minute short film combines many aspects to explain the sour dynamics between the core characters, such as sexual harassment, domestic abuse and career ambitions. The strength of the subject matters highlighted and addressed that are deemed sensitive ends up undermining the otherwise genuine plot.

Kajol quips that motherhood, constantly studying on the move, is like becoming an intern forever. What they think the viewer will take away from the film is the feeling that women deserve to be respected as human beings, whether they are mothers or not. To add on, a value of a woman nor a woman’s success is not in its entirety based on having children but rather on her own personal pursuits in living her dream, her way, to ideally be a non-conformist.

Helmed and penned by Renuka Shahane, the short film depicts a young woman who finds comfort through the Indian classical dance Odissi. The intensity and sense of conviction that the three women characters are going through is not tangible.

It delves deep into their chaotic lives form the matriarch (Azmi), her daughter (Kajol) and granddaughter (Palkar). A searing drama about a fractured family of women from three separate generations. Renowned Bollywood starlet Kajol alongside Mithila Palkar, Tanvi Azmi, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi, and Kanwaljit Singh make a splendid team in this short film.
