As Vijay’s fans waited for the film for almost a year, Master might have been a great treat, but it is a fact to be spotted that it did not fulfil the expectations of everyone.
It was merely because of the very non-linear flow of the movie.
Some scenes were very unfinished, so it was not a clear-cut one for some. Why didn’t they just go for a one-way-go linear plot? Well, that’s on the director.
The narrative conveyed in this film, however, was something important to society and the performance of the casts were also solid, especially in most of the emotional scenes with Vijay.
I also feel that stories like this should have been much more impactful as the message it brings is one that should not be neglected.
But after all of that, why do I think Vijay Sethupathi was the “Master” in Master?
Having a distinct style of acting
I have come across several movies of his and his acting style is majorly referred to as “coolly distant” when he reacts in a way where it doesn’t actually go along with the plot because it is sometimes silly and absurd. However, the audience seem to like him being this way because that is what makes Vijay Sethupathi special apart from his great acting skills.
Doesn’t mind being the protagonist
Vijay Sethupathi is someone who has always experimented with many types of roles, and he doesn’t really mind being the villain. I guess because he knows, no matter what kind of role he plays, the audience will definitely enjoy it. After all, although in this film he was the villain, he is also considered a major role as the plot really revolves primarily around his character.
He can be the hero, the villain and the comedian
Vijay has a great sense of humour and so does Vijay Sethupathi. He is so versatile that he can play both types of character effortlessly; the comedian/hero or the comedian/villain. Well, for this reason, I guess the producer can sometimes cut costs by casting him.
Even if the Kabadi scene was a full component of the movie’s “mass scene”, what was the whole point? Overall, other characters like Shanthanu and Gouri Kishan could also have given some significance to this movie.
So, what do you think of Vijay Sethupathi’s performance in “Master” ?
