We have good news for you in conjunction with Women’s Day.
Malaysian women’s doubles M.Thinaah and Pearly Tan clinched their first World Tour title at the Swiss Open in Basel, Switzerland.
Pearly and Thinaah had defeated their senior teammates, including World No. 10 Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean. In the second match, both players picked up where they left off to win their first major championship and become the first Malaysians to win the ladies’s title in the match.
Back in 2009, Malaysians Lee Chong Wei and Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong won the Swiss Open in the men’s singles and doubles categories, respectively.
For their contributions, Pearly-Thinaah received US$11,060 (roughly RM45,000), while their Bulgarian opponents received US$5320 (about RM22,000). Pearly-Thinaah are all set to participate in the All England Championships in Birmingham from March 17th till 22nd.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pearly and Thinaah had both earned the Bangladesh International Challenge and the India International Challenge in 2019.
