Denes Kumar Responds To ‘Why Music Director From India’ Backlash

Of all the reasons to hate on a film, this is probably the worst.

Vedigundu Pasangge is the latest local movie to hit cinemas. The movie revolves around social problems that are plaguing the Indian community, and it stars Denes Kumar, Ruben Mahadevan, Alvin, Sangeetha Krishnasamy, Pashini, Seelan, and more.

Recently, a meme started circulating – criticising the filmmakers for hiring music directors from India. Renowned musical duo Vivek-Mervin served as music directors for Vedigundu Pasangge. Aside from that, Indian singers like Anthony Daasan, Sathyaprakash, and Saktishree Gopalan were also featured in the songs.

While most of us are pretty impressed with the collaboration, a particular online page called this out, saying they will not support the movie because the movie does not support local musicians.

We contacted Vedigundu Pasangge‘s producer and lead Denes Kumar to get his perspective on the matter.

“First of all, I don’t think they understand how the business works. This is a collaboration between two parties. It’s also a way for us to break into the market in India. Also, I don’t understand why they choose to focus on the music directors and a couple of singers from India when we have over 200 local Indians in the production. The casts are 100% local. The story is local. The setting is local. And we’re bringing this movie to India and the UK. We should be proud of that,” Denes said.

“In our last two movies, the music directors and singers were all local Indians. We wanted to try something different with this one, that’s all. I honestly don’t understand why this is an issue. It’s a marketing technique, that’s all,”

“If we can be happy when our local artists go to India and collaborate, why can’t we be happy when musicians from India come here to collaborate? I think it’s great that Balan Kashmir sang alongside Anthony Daasan, and Datin Sri Shaila sang with Mervin Solomon. It’s an accomplishment,”

Thankfully, people in the comments section agree with Denes’ perspective:

And this guy said it best:

Anyway, Vedigundu Pasangge is showing in cinemas nationwide – so go watch it and let us know what you think!
