When we discuss art, it is subject to different interpretations by many. Music, movies, painting, and a variety of other forms of art are all considered to be popular forms of expression. Carving portraits on a leaf, on the other hand, is a truly exquisite form of art.

R.Sasitharan, a native of Tanjung Malim, Perak, has a towering intellect to create this absolutely insane artwork.  He carves leaves, which is not a simple or easy skill to master.

Imagine the amount of patience and delicateness required to turn his imagination into a piece of art. Leaf carving is a form of art that entails delicately pruning leaves to create a picture or landscape.

Carving is done with tools that pierce the surface sharply without cutting or removing the veins. Making these leaf carvings is a difficult task that necessitates the delicate precision of a skilled craftsman.

He primarily carves leaves from the Peepal leaf.

There are few artworks and fewer artists because carving on leaves is still a rare form of art. As a result, while an artist is paid well for each work, the overall demand is low because few people are aware of the art’s existence.

The 34-year-old is a lecturer at Langkawi Vocational College. As a result of his self-taught talent, he began selling his artwork online, particularly through Instagram and Tik tok.

It must be difficult for him to balance his work as a leaf carver and his teaching career. However, he is unquestionably setting a good example for many others. Having a talent or a passion can sometimes help you feed your mind as well as your stomach.

This self-taught skill would have come in handy for him in the midst of the pandemic’s tough moments.  Seeing him, all I can say is that he is the epitome of a dedicated worker with a positive outlook.
