Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru clinched the third top rated film on IMDb, at (9.1) following with both Hollywood movies such as The Shawshank Redemption (9.3) and The Godfather (9.2). The movie has been making waves for all the right reasons, and Suriya’s fans are ecstatic as the film achieves a rare feat on IMDb.
Soorarai Pottru creates history again!
Helmed by Sudha Kongara Prasad, the outstanding film has also been selected for the 24th edition of the Shanghai Film Festival under the Panorama category.
This film lovely depicts the life of GR Gopinath, who is the founder of Air Deccan which is a low-cost airline. Suriya Sivakumar was joined by Paresh Rawal and Aparna Balamurali with Urvashi, Mohan Babu, and Karunas. Following the closure of theatres due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Soorarai Pottru has been the first Tamil film to be released on OTT website Amazon Prime Video.
Selected as one among ten Indian films to be screened under the best foreign film category at the 78th Golden Globe Awards, the film also received rave reviews from audiences and celebrities.

The film isn’t necessarily a biopic but it is based on true events, which contributes to its emotional effects. Suriya’s first collaboration with director Sudha Kongara, has also entered the Oscar race and earned the eligibility to earn a Best Picture nomination.
