Later this year, Vijay will be starring in his 62nd movie, Sarkar, helmed by AR Murugadoss. Their collaboration has already delivered two hits in Thuppakki (2012) and Kaththi (2014). However, neither of those films turned out to be as big a hit as Vijay’s most recent release, Mersal, directed by Atlee.
Mersal broke the bank worldwide and successfully etched its name in the prestigious 200 crore club, grossing approximately Rs 251 crore (US$ 37 million) worldwide. As of now, there are only six other Tamil films that have made more than Rs 200 crores — Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion, Enthiran, Kabali, I and Vishwaroopam.
However, Atlee who will be reuniting with Vijay for Thalapathy 63, says that the film will be even bigger than Mersal and Theri (Atlee’s first collab with Vijay) in terms of mass appeal. As reported by entertainment industry tracker Ramesh Bala, Atlee had this to say:
“#Thalapathy63 will be better than#Theri and#Mersal in-terms of Mass Appeal.. I have got a good lead.. Developing it right now, into a bigger movie..”

But for now, we await Sarkar. Will the pairing of AR Murugadoss and Vijay deliver three hits in a row, not just financially, but critically as well? We shall find out later this year. Sarkar is set to hit the big screens this Deepavali.
