Excelling in a specific field and obtaining both recognition and success are the elements that can inspire a country. In recent times, several Malaysian Indians have stepped up to the bat, walked into the world stage, and hoisted the national flag in the field of sports.

R. Sharmendran, S. Prem Kumar, and P. Madhuri are among the Malaysians who rose to the challenge and excelled receiving international recognition for their jaw-dropping karate kicks. The trio have left us beaming with pride by participating in the Tokyo Qualification Tournament in Paris, France. The event kicked off today (11th ) and will go on till 13th June.

The kumite exponents have proven to all of us that they can compete at the highest level. Sharmendran, who had previously earned the Karate1 World Cup championship in 2014, will surely aim for a gold medal as this could be the first and last Olympics in which karate is featured.

Meanwhile, S. Prem Kumar, P. Madhuri, and himself, took home bronze medals each at the 2018 Asian Games. All three had trained for a month in Kazakhstan in preparation for the final qualifiers in Paris. Millions of karate enthusiasts will be watching the championships from every nook and corner of the world.

You were born to be a player. You were meant to be here. This moment is yours.
