With the sky high number of COVID-19 cases, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob stated that the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in Kuala Lumpur would be lifted from today onwards (16th July).

However, it still remains questionable when would the lockdown be lifted in Selangor since there is no announcement on the particular state which has contributed to the rising positive cases in the country.

Based on the growing pattern of daily COVID-19 cases, the government should take more stringent and strict steps to control the spread of COVID-19 infections in the community and avoid a sharp increase in cases.

Malaysia reported 13,215 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday (15th July), bringing the total infections in the country to 880782,533, with a total of 6,613 deaths. Meanwhile, computer shops, telecommunication devices, books, and stationery shops are allowed to operate across the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

Selangor is among the states with the highest number of 6,120 COVID cases reported on 15th July.

Netizens are disappointed with the government’s way of handling the current pandemic, mostly over the ineffectiveness of the prolonged Movement Control Order (MCO), that has failed to reduce the number of COVID positives in the country.

But it seems the government is doomed to fail in curbing the pandemic. Malaysians are questioning the effectiveness of the lockdown, and are furious with the government for their slow and futile attempt in handling the COVID situation, in comparison to our neighbour Singapore who has been successful in containing the virus and coming up with a fruitful recovery plan.
