Tomorrow is Aadi Velli, the first Friday of Aadi, and on this holy day, Goddess Swarnambika, a form of Goddess Parvati, is honoured. Those who worship her will be blessed with wealth and all of their possessions will prosper. It is believed that to obtain wealth and material gains, one should pray to the goddess.

How do you perform Aadi Velli Puja?

During the puja, simply make a sweet dish as an offering to the goddess and chant her holy slokas or mantras. If you’re wondering what sweet offerings can be made during Aadi Velli, here are five flavourful options to consider in addition to the traditional Sakkarai Pongal.

Carrot Payasam

Carrot Payasam is a nutritious and fresh payasam variation. Grated carrots are sautéed in milk and cooked until the payasam is thick and creamy. The richness of the carrot is well incorporated with the milk, making this kheer extremely delectable. It can be served cold or hot for the goddess.

Akkaravadisal

Akkaravadisal is a traditional Iyengar recipe. The method is very similar to sakkarai pongal, but the main difference is the richness with milk and ghee. It’s a rich and creamy take on sakkarai pongal. It is a popular Prasad in Srirangam and other Vishnu temples.

Thengaai Poorna Kozhukattai

Are you a fan of Kozhukattai? Well, Lord Ganesh enjoys Thengaai Poorna Kozhukattai, a delicious sweet. Devotees will offer this delectable dish to Lord Ganesh on all Vinayaka Chaturthi days. We make this delectable kozhukattai as a naivedyam dish even on the auspicious Varalakshmi Viratham. We can make a variety of kozhukattai, but thengai purana kozhukattai is a traditional naivedyam dish that can also be served to the goddess during aadi velli.

Elaneer payasam

Elaneer payasam (Tender Coconut Payasam), is a quick and easy payasam variation. A very popular dessert in Kerala and many southern Tamilnadu locations. A one-of-a-kind dessert for any occasion! The tender coconut pieces, combined with the blend of evaporated milk and coconut milk, make this dish truly delicious.

Neer Mor

YouTube video

Neer Mor translates simply as “Thin Watery Buttermilk.” It is refreshing, cooling, and gut-friendly for the summer season. Neer Mor is one of the simplest and fastest prasadam recipes to prepare and serve at home, even for a large group. The drink has incredible health benefits because curd is a natural probiotic, is gut friendly, and aids digestion.

During Aadi Velli, you may serve the Goddess with the following special food. All of the recipes are not only simple, but also delicious and distinct from the typical savouries on offer. Now that we’re spending most of our time at home, it’s time to try out some new recipes, so why not do it now?

If you have any other recipes that one can make during Aadi Velli, please share the recipes in the comments section below. May Goddess Swarnambika bestow wealth and prosperity on all Hindus.
