Varnam: How did you get the idea to make these healthy homemade products?
Jinothiny: I was pregnant with my daughter two years ago. I was researching healthy diet information on the internet in order to have a healthy baby. That’s when I remembered a nutrient powder made in my homeland of Sri Lanka.
This nutrient powder was made not only for babies, but also for adults who needed nutrients in their system. Because it is made with multigrain, my mother-in-law advised me to consume it on a daily basis during my pregnancy. And it resulted in a very healthy baby for me. That’s how I knew and started making these healthy homemade products.
Varnam: How did your business start taking off?
Jinothiny: Once I started making this ‘nutrient mix,’ I usually share it with my friends so that they can benefit from it as well. As I began to share this product, I started receiving positive feedback, and the majority of them also suggested that I should step up my game by doing this as an online business. So, others will benefit from this as well.
My friends were extremely supportive of this decision and provided me with numerous business ideas. After considering their advice, I decided to start this business after the birth of my daughter. I thought, as a housewife, I would be able to contribute to the development of this product as well while taking care of my daughter.
Varnam: When did you start your business, and what products do you sell?
Jinothiny: I started my business in December of 2020, and I was only selling three products at the time. However, about a week ago, I introduced two new products: Healthy Mix and Brown Rice. Both are gluten-free instant drinks made with organic ingredients.
Varnam: Aside from selling and marketing your products, I believe there are many layers to running a business, and it all starts with making the product, packaging, promoting, and so on. How do you handle this with a two-year-old?
Jinothiny: It will definitely be a challenge because I will have to balance taking care of a toddler and running this business. After my daughter has gone to bed, I usually do any business-related work. However, when it comes to purchasing items and ingredients for the product, my husband who is an engineer is always willing to assist me.
He’ll do all of the shopping for me. He will also assist me by taking care of our daughter whenever he is free or on leave, allowing me to focus on my business. At that time, I’ll make the most of my hours by creating content for my Instagram page as well as the packaging for my product.
Varnam: Do you have a life motto or a philosophy that you live by?
Jinothiny: A healthy lifestyle and positive thinking make life more beautiful. Always be grateful for the little things in life and don’t take anything for granted.
The 33-year-old also stated that she vindicates the quality and hygiene of her product by not making separate products for her daughter and her customers. She uses the same product she uses at home to serve the customer, and she always ensures that it is clean.
Jinothiny also believes that during this pandemic, people and children are likely to be sedentary. As a result, they may desire to use healthy and natural products in order to maintain good health. So, she believes her products may meet their needs.
