Have you guys watched the Netflix release, “Mimi”?
If you don’t know, this film is about a girl named Mimi who lives in a small town in Rajasthan and aspires to be a heroine in Bollywood films. In order to achieve her film star dreams, Mimi needs a large sum of money. At the same time, a foreign couple who are unable to conceive flew down to Mumbai in search of a young healthy woman to bear their child, a surrogate mother. The couple then approaches Mimi and persuades her that if she becomes their surrogate, she will be paid a large sum that will be more than enough to fulfil her dream.
And the tale later takes many twists and turns, culminating in Mimi’s emotional breakdown also of her inability to make certain decisions. For me, this film began as a very entertaining one and it will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride towards the end. So, I won’t bore you with the plot any longer, but here are four reasons why you should watch “Mimi.”
An impactful story
If the storyline outweighs all other reasons to watch a film, I am a big fan. I don’t want to go see a movie just because Kriti Sanon is in it. I want to watch a movie because the story and plot of the film should keep ‘me’ as the audience interested until the very end. Also, the tale was not only entertaining and touching, but it was very impactful, which I don’t think many people expected that at the start of the film.
The cast’s outstanding performances
Another powerful reason why this film was able to make such an impression was the choice of cast. They specifically chose actors who would be able to fully embody the character. There were numerous scenes in which the majority of the characters in the film performed admirably. All of the actors wanted to do their best for the character they were playing. Kriti Sanon had to gain nearly 15 kilos in order for her character to appear realistic.
Mimi’s enlightening words
The movie began very playfully as the persona of Mimi, but when she had to mature at one point, she conveyed the maturity not only through her acting but also through the dialogues she delivered. Hats off to the scriptwriter for writing such a touching dialogue, especially near the conclusion of the story.
The story about “surrogacy”
I’m aware of a couple of films that dealt with surrogacy issues like Chori Chori Chupke Chupke .But what distinguishes Mimi from the others is that it delves deeply into the emotions of the surrogate mother. Also, it appears that there are not one or two, but many cases of parents abandoning their surrogate child for various reasons, and this film covers that aspect of the story as well.
This film may have many twists and turns, but it will leave you with an important message at the end. If you’ve seen it, let us know what your favourite part was in the comments section below.
