Deeply affected by job losses, several people have already quit their current job due to zero wages or faced with a salary deduction amid the pandemic. Thirukumaran’s optimistic approach even at the darkest phase gave him the courage to start a small fruit stall and is now flourishing in his business around Cheras and Sungai Besi.

Deprived of a regular income, he began to sell fruits and to his surprise in just a few months, he managed to earn more than he had previously. Thiru is one of an increasing number of people who have successfully turned to the fruit selling business to make a decent living in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hailing from Sungai Besi, he starts his day at 5.30 am leaving his house to Chow Kit, where he purchases his day’s supply of fruits from a wholesaler. The business of the 28-year-old young lad became popular after he muddled through to grab the early morning crowd at Bandar Seri Permaisuri, Cheras and Sungai Besi.

According to The Sun Daily, he earned approximately RM3,500 in the first month in business which is RM1,000 more than he was earning at the accounting firm where he previously worked. The humble fruit stall’s delighted owner has registered his company as TK Fruits.

Most of us have fairly simplistic businesses, with just a stall or a pick-up truck parked by the side of the road, but many have thrived anyway. Thiru has certainly set an example to all those who have loss their jobs due to the harsh realities of COVID-19 and have started up a new venture which will in-turn help them to have the confidence to earn money for themselves and for their families as well.
