Unvaccinated Children Flock Crowded Waterfall Amid SOP Relaxation

What were these parents really thinking when risking their vulnerable children to a deadly virus?

It was shocking enough to see swarms of people without any regard to social distance themselves and comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the government visit a popular waterfall area in Gombak, but what took us all aback was the fact that unvaccinated children were part of the crowd.

It begs a question, What were the parents thinking? Why are they exposing these vulnerable children to the possibility of contracting COVID-19 and worse, its even more deadlier variants?

Sending your children to school amid the pandemic is considered bad but when it comes to bringing them to a crowded place, is totally fine? 

Come on, where are these parents’ common sense? The pandemic is still far from over and remember that even if you are fully vaccinated, and living in an area where COVID-19 transmission is high, you and your family are at a high risk of being infected at anytime and anywhere. The virus doesn’t discriminate.

The truth is that things are tough, and Malaysia faces some difficult months ahead, but it is no stranger to turbulence. It is absolutely pointless to have a high vaccinated population but citizens who do not comply by basic SOPs! The ‘tidak apa’ mentality of Malaysians are beyond saving, really. If the number of infections amongst children and adults keep on rising, the government would have invested in a failed effort to get the population fully inoculated.

It started when a Tik Tok user shared a video of a massive crowd at the Sungai Pisaing waterfall in Gombak. Despite our long and arduous struggle with the current outbreak, few Malaysians totally went mad after being given a little bit of SOP relaxation under the National Recovery Plan for individuals who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. 

Based on the footage, the trek was overcrowded, and many of the individuals were seen bathing in the waterfall without wearing masks or practising safe social distancing, as if COVID-19 never existed. The video which has also gone viral on other platforms, including Twitter, has raised questions by concerned netizens.

According to the SOPs which were issued by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, inter-district travel, outdoor sports and recreation activities are permitted for fully vaccinated individuals.

Is a relaxing day at the waterfall worth the crippling hospital expenses and the threat of losing your loved ones?
