The Pandemic Management Special Committee has opted to lift interstate travel restrictions once the vaccination rate over all adults hits 90%.
In a tweet on Wednesday (22nd September), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that Malaysia has accomplished its goal of fully vaccinating 80 percent of the adult population, attaining adult herd immunity against COVID. The achievement comes as Malaysia prepares to live in the new normal with COVID-19 and its variants despite the fact that new infections are still on the rise.
Apart from that, Bernama has reported that from Thursday onwards which falls TODAY (23rd Sept 2021), groceries, small markets, restaurants, and fuel stations would be able to operate from 6 am until midnight. Ismail further said that all companies are allowed to reopen again with 100 percent of their employees, as long as everyone, including the employers, have been fully vaccinated.
From 1st October 2021, spas, wellness centres, massage centres and also tourism sectors such as zoos, farming, snorkelling and etc would be allowed to reopen again, if both operators and the clients are fully vaccinated.
Individuals who have been fully vaccinated can pray at mosques and non-Muslim houses of worship, subject to the state religious authorities’ or the Ministry of National Unity’s normal operating standards. The country added 14,990 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, halting six days of declines.
