Following a furious altercation at their home in Batu Caves last week, R. Umadevi was charged for allegedly murdering her husband.
The 26-year-old woman was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction. The accused, who works in a factory had murdered A. Murgan, 45, at a house near Kampung Laksamana about 11.30pm on 19th October.
Umadevi nodded in understanding when the charge was read to her before Selayang Magistrate Nur Hafizah Rajuni. No plea was recorded.
Gombak police head Assistant Commissioner Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said that the initial investigations indicated that the incident erupted after the victim accused his wife of cheating and attempted to assault her with a pair of scissors.
NST reported that the suspect then grabbed an umbrella, broke it into half and fought back by allegedly stabbing her husband in the abdomen with the sharp pole.
The police were informed of the incident which took place at the victim’s place and rushed to the spot immediately. The team finally found a murder weapon behind the house where the crime took place.
The court set 25th November for mention.
