Thanuja; A Big-Hearted Ten-Year-Old Helps Underprivileged Students

She strongly believes that education is a fundamental right, and that "digital poverty" should not be a reason to impede it.

Well, we won’t deny that kids these days are beyond doubt blessed with creativity, intelligence and a heart of gold. It’s true that sometimes you don’t need a cape to flaunt your heroism. Just a small act of kindness would do the job for you.

Thanuja Kumaran, a 10-year-old has recently stolen the limelight on social media platforms by lending a hand to less fortunate students. The initiative started in the midst of the circuit breaker in response to provide digital devices to underprivileged students. Her Digital Hope initiative, which began in September of last year, has so far handed over 16 refurbished tablets to 22 students (recipients and their siblings).

She strongly believes that education is a fundamental right, and that “digital poverty” should not be a reason to impede it.

Thanuja started to solicit money with a Canvas-created banner that was extensively shared on social media by her friends, relatives, and the SJK (T) Ladang Highlands management. Her cause caught the eye of political parties, business leaders, and non-governmental organisations, all of which contributed reconditioned computers and tablets to the cause.

According to NST, she has stated that assisting underprivileged children has reminded her to be grateful for the opportunity to get a good education.

It’s never too late to help those in need at a young age!

“I’ve begun to appreciate everything my parents have done for me so far. With whatever I have, I feel obligated to help the least fortunate people in society. More significantly, I realised that age should never be an impediment to pursuing a worthy goal,” she remarked.

You’re an inspiration to all of us, Thanuja!
