A great accomplishment indeed by the young and stupendously talented guy, Yilamaran Vispalingam as he made history by earning a decisive victory in the first edition of the 2021 World Deaf Karate Championship in Tehran, Iran last month.

Apart from Yilamaran, a total number of seven athletes participated in the tournament, they are; Siti Norinsyirah Adawiah, Muhammad Iqbal Mohd Taib, Pang Kai Xiang, M. Gopinath, Muhammad Afiq Mohd Taib, Ong Zong Yi and Muhammad Danial Moharam.

According to V. Vicnesvaran, the national karate coach of the Malaysian Sports Association for the Deaf (MSDeaf), Yilamaran won a bronze medal in the men’s kumite event under 84 kilogrammes (kg) in the competition, which took place from the 18th to 25th November.

“This is the first time Malaysia has participated at the world level and we have made history by bringing home medals,” said Vicnesvaran who is  undergoing quarantine when contacted by Bernama here on Wednesday.

This is truly a special moment for all of us. Wishing our athletes more success and recognition in the future!
