When Mother Nature Strikes; Flood Precautions To Keep You Alarmed and Prepared For Survival

More than 30,000 people were evacuated from their homes in Malaysia on Sunday as a result of one of the biggest floods in recent years.

Listed below are flood safety rules to follow and adhere to. If you choose to take it lightly, you and your loved ones including your pets may be in danger. Avoid panicking and thoroughly consider the consequences of your actions during an unexpected flood.

Keep up to date on flooding areas.

Listen to the local news and weather reports on a battery-operated radio, and keep extra batteries on hand. This is where you can find out what’s going on around your house or business. Pay attention to any advice about whether or not you need to leave the area.

Do not attempt to cross a flooded area on foot.

If you find yourself outside during a flood, do not attempt to wade through the surging floods. You could be struck down and swept away in only a few inches of water if the river is stronger than you think. Instead, make your way as fast and safely as possible to higher ground.

If you’re in a car, stay away from flooded areas.

A part of the road that has been flooded is a risky place that should be avoided. Even if you notice other drivers trying to pass, put safety first and turn around and drive in the opposite direction. There is no way to know how deep a flooded area is or whether your car will be able to safely pass through it. A vehicle can be washed away in flood floods even if the water level is relatively low (24 inches or less).

A car that is stuck should be abandoned right away.

If your vehicle becomes stuck in a flood, get out as soon as possible. Stop trying to relocate it because your time could be well spent getting away from the danger zone. The care is not a safe haven in any way. If it begins to be pulled and drifted away by the water, it will most certainly be pushed to the side, and the rushing water will likely flip it over. Anyone who happens to be inside will be trapped and at risk of drowning or hypothermia as a result of exposure to the freezing water.

Evacuate a flooded area as soon as possible

If authorities tell you to leave a particular location, pay close attention to what they say. You may be instructed to follow a particular route to safety. Choosing an alternative route could lead you to a road that is obstructed or otherwise dangerous. Keep your radio tuned in to hear if the directions have changed or if particular highways have been closed completely. When leaving the flooded region, remember to strap up and drive cautiously.

In this hectic situation, many are coming forward to help flood victims in any way possible. Following that, Klang MP Charles Santiago has launched a fundraising campaign to provide food, transportation, support and immediate assistance to the thousands stranded by the floods.

The most important thing is to be safe.

The following safety precautions to follow during a flood are intended to keep you safe during this natural disaster. Getting yourself and your loved ones to a secure location away from the flooded area should always be your top concern. While it may be tempting to try to save valuable items before departing, this is a bad idea. “Property” may always be replaced, but a life can never be replaced once the floodwaters recede.
