Arunboii; A household name that requires no introduction. The man went viral with his hit single ‘Enge Port’, a song close to his heart representing his struggles through rapping, garnering him more than 700,000 views on YouTube since its debut in June.

Recently, rapper and lyricist Arunboii had a big win at Malaysia’s Anugerah Lagu Indie 2021 with his debut single ‘Enge Port’.

In the final round of the competition that was held at Spacerubix in Puchong on Saturday, the Klang-born musician beat out 11 other performances.

The song ‘Enge Port,’ penned by Arunboii and arranged by Black Yoda, trumped rock band Nusarasa‘s ‘Jauh’ (‘Far’).

Arunboii who’s actual name is Arun Syarmaa, won the ultimate prize of RM7,000 along with a full day’s rental of live gig venue Angkasa Event Space and a trophy.

He didn’t have an easy time earning this prize. Along the way, a number of difficulties and complications developed. He was able to conquer every difficulty with everyone’s help, and it inspired him to keep going, he said through his Instagram.

He expresses his gratitude to teammates Lawrence Soosai, Gideyo and Eric Prince for their incredible effort and said without their excellent and brilliant performance, he wouldn’t be receiving these honours.

Aside from the grand prize, Arunboii also clinched the TuneCore Choice Award.

Arunboii’s debut song, ‘Enge Port,’ was released in June this year. Both the song and subsequent music video, which was rapped in Tamil, were inspired by Arunboii’s own experiences as a working-class Indian minority in Malaysia reported by NME.
