Hygiene in general is a super sensitive topic to talk about but I am all about removing the stigma to create opportunities to have a neutral conversation. This article would be a great start to this wonderful journey of exploring your spiritual hygiene practices.
Do you ever have days, weeks, or even months that don’t seem to go as planned? Do you ever feel “off,” as if something isn’t quite right? Maybe you’re physically colliding with things and getting into scrapes, or maybe you just can’t seem to get into a flow state.
What does it mean though?
Spiritual hygiene is the practice of paying attention and keeping your energy levels up. This includes both your aura and the rest of your astral bodies. Each person may use a different set of practices, but they all work toward the same goal: clearing your energetic space of unwanted energy.
Well, the thought of hygiene comes after some sort of contamination.
So, what is spiritual contamination?
Spiritual contamination may occur as a result of not paying attention to one’s own energy fields, allowing other energies to influence you. This could have a negative impact on all aspects of your life, including your personal relationships and your job. Your auric bodies surround you and easily interact with the energies of others. Even if you practise spiritual shielding and protection, it’s easy to miss a few days or find yourself in a situation where some negativity seems to stick to you. But there is something you can do about it.
You must be wondering, but how is it relevant to me?
If you have been told any one of these statements;
- You are so mature for your age
- You are an old soul
- You are sensitive
- Damn, your intuition is freakishly accurate
Okay the 4th statement, you would probably only hear from your best friend 😂! However, let me tell you, having a set of healthy spiritual hygiene practices really helped me, as a highly sensitive person. And no, none of it would ever require to be “less sensitive”. Cause that is just absurdity.
What are some signs to look out for?
- Too much chatter in the brain
- Restlessness during quiet time
- Too much drama happening in your life
- Exhaustion
- Difficulty focusing
- Overly emotional or short-tempered
- Financial stagnancy
This information is here to serve you and there is no need to fear these feelings. If you can acknowledge these signs in your life, you have done the first step!
How to Integrate Energetic Practices for Spiritual Hygiene?
Our energy is a component of our spiritual selves. Using energy practices can assist you in maintaining a healthy aura and energy field that does not interfere with your daily health and well-being. The practices listed below are just a few examples of spiritual hygiene practices that can help you stay healthy, happy, and balanced.
Burning sage
The use of sage to remove negative energy is a tried and true method. It’s been around for centuries, if not longer, and many swear by it. It may be used by real estate professionals if a home is not selling, and many people use it to “clear” a new space they are moving into. Such a well-known practice must have some merit!
Simply purchase a sage bundle from a local store or make your own from dried sage by tying a bunch together with natural twine. Then you light the end on fire and walk around the perimeter of the area you want to clear, allowing the smoke to remove any unwanted energies. Then, move to the centre of the room and wave the sage bundle around you like a magic wand, allowing the smoke to clear your personal energy.
Taking a warm Salt bath
Salt, a mineral, has long been used to absorb and expel negative energy. Salt is commonly used to protect a home, but a salt bath can also be used to remove negative energy from you. Simply soak in a saltwater bath or add Epsom salts to your bath for added relaxation. Bathing in the luxurious scent and silky feel of the Epsom salt and oil mixture can provide even more protection and enjoyment.
Chant OM
Monks and other spiritually advanced people have used chanting for aeons to balance and cleanse their energy. Chanting has been shown to have an effect on physical matter, as it can literally create patterns in sand. The effects of chanting can be felt as soundwaves reverberate throughout your body, but the waves do not stop there. They emanate from deep within and permeate the environment around you, clearing and healing your energy and spirit.
Sit as if you’re going to meditate to use this practice. Take a deep breath in while keeping your spine straight and aligned. Exhale with the sound, OM until the exhalation is complete, then repeat. You can chant as long as you want, but try to chant for at least two minutes. Experiment with different ranges, such as a higher OM sound or a low, deep sound. Do this until you’ve found the range or tone that feels right for you, then relax and enjoy.
But what if you’re an atheist or agnostic?
Serving others, communing with nature, and cultivating inner stillness and tranquility are all aspects of spiritual health that don’t require a specific faith. It doesn’t have to be related to religion or the belief in God.
You can utilise a variety of strategies to purify your energy and maintain spiritual cleanliness. The important thing is to start doing something and keep practising until you feel better. Try a different technique if one doesn’t work. You’ll find one that speaks to you, and once you do, you’ll be able to release energetic loads and enjoy the exquisite physical, mental, and emotional states that come with spiritual health. Let me know it goes!
