The flood does not seem to be coming to an end. After shattering many people’s dreams and hopes in Selangor, it has now invaded into Pahang.

The losses that the victims must bear are often incomprehensible. They lost valuable items, especially items purchased with every drop of sweat, they lost books of memories that had been saved for years, and everything occurred so swiftly.

In light of the recent tragedy, the government has come up with certain initiatives that could help the victims a little. Flood victims who lost their ICs, passport and other important documents can get them replaced for free through the Home Ministry’s services.

Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the National Registration Department and Immigration Department will be tasked to help flood victims whose personal documents were destroyed or lost in the storm.

The Immigration Department and the National Registration Office are both places where you may renew your papers.  Flood victims will also be excluded from paying replacement payments for missing or damaged driver’s licences, road tax, and Vehicle Ownership Certificates, according to recent announcements.

“There is no need to hurry this,” stated Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong. I’ve asked RTD to assist individuals who have been impacted, and if possible, we want to set up mobile counters to serve flood victims.”

Apart from the horrendous disaster, we get a chance to witness inclusive and thoughtful flood relief efforts. Generous people are offering free laptop repairs, free spectacles, Indians cleaning mosques, a Gurdwara offering Muslims prayer space, free mattresses and more.

It demonstrates how a community may achieve something on its own before the government intervenes. Let us lend a helping hand to one another in this tough moment. We’ll make it through.
