It will be a day to remember knowing that our community’s contributions to society have been recognised. RJ Tresa Lazaroo was recently awarded the prestigious title of ‘Dr APJ Young Servant Award’ by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam People Welfare in Tamil Nadu.
This award was bestowed to Lazaroo, a well-known RJ from Minnal FM in recognition of her achievements and contribution to social service in Malaysia.
Hailing from Tangkak, Johor, this young lass claims that this is the very first award and recognition she has ever received in her life. Furthermore, APJ Abdul Kalam is her hero and receiving an honour in his name is a blessing.
Varnam had a talk with Tresa, one of the 42 Young Servant award recipients from Malaysia. During the interview, the young woman said she faced a lot of struggles being a lady in the media industry whilst experiencing betrayals and disappointment, hence this award is an achievement she will always treasure.
Varnam: What inspired you to be a part of this noble association?
RJ Tresa Lazaroo: Speaking about noble causes, I’m not sure whether it could be related to my name. I’ve asked my father why did he name me ‘Tresa’. My father said I was named after Mother Theresa who is known for her humanitarian work. So my father felt her legacy could be continued with me in the future through good works. Living up to my name, I would immediately respond if I see someone struggling in my presence, that is probably one of the reasons why I received this recognition.
Varnam: How do you balance your work life and social service?
RJ Tresa Lazaroo: Balancing my life is very difficult. I always give my best and put much effort to work well in the media industry. For example, I would dig thoroughly and do as much research on the topic I intend to deliver to the community like visiting the vulnerable and affected groups of people at the same time gathering more information about their plight. Yes, this is no easy feat and it can be tiring at times as I don’t get enough sleep and sometimes even skip meals. I would put as much effort as possible in making sure the person who is seeking help can get the right assistance.
Varnam: What are the changes you hope to see in society someday?
RJ Tresa Lazaroo: The only thing that I expect from this society, in everyone’s life there are uncountable problems and struggles, put that aside and try to read a book which could change your life based on your point of view. Upon reading that book, deliver the message that you have read and were transformed to another person in hopes that they could be impacted too. This will eventually birth a community thirsty for knowledge. Personally, I would read as much as I can and share the advantages of reading in our community.
The late great APJ Abdul Kalam once said that the reading habit should be practised and delivered to the younger generation. As for her part, she decided to start this initiative by creating a YouTube channel under the name of “தினம் ரேடியோவில் சாரல் திரேசா” (The Tresa Lazaroo talk show). Through this platform, she will deliver the message from a book that she read all in within 3 minutes to the community in a way they can understand clearly and decipher the message within the story.
Team Varnam congratulates you on your remarkable achievement. Here’s to you continuing your winning streak. Keep up the good work RJ Tresa!
