Malaysia begins administering Sinovac booster shots at all offsite Mega Covid-19 vaccination centres (PPV) from TODAY. In a statement, the company said this was in line with the announcement by health minister Khairy Jamaluddin that all Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine recipients can now choose their preferred third vaccine dose.
“Those who are qualified for the booster dose and would like to get the Sinovac type vaccination can visit the ProtectHealth website for a list of off-site PPVs,” it said.
To date, a total number of 3.5 million Sinovac recipients have yet to receive a booster dose, describing the figure as “a big amount.” Many Sinovac recipients are still hesitant about the Pfizer vaccine as their booster. Hence, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced that the Ministry will now allow those who received Sinovac for their first and second dose to obtain the same vaccine brand as their booster.
Furthermore, they’re all vulnerable to the Omicron variant since Sinovac’s efficacy isn’t as good as Pfizer’s. Adding that the health ministry still advises people to acquire Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccines because they give greater protection.
