As we all know, the sudden and unexpected death of a 13-year-old teenager, N. Revnesh Kumar after receiving a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on 30th December 2021 has created a buzz and topic of concern amongst Malaysians.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin along with Health director-general, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, and a forensic expert have recently conducted a meeting with the parents of late Revnesh, Vijayarani Govindan and her husband, L. Naresh Kumar at the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) headquarters in Putrajaya.

During the 30-minute meeting session, they revealed the autopsy report which was specially reviewed by the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry’s (Mosti) Chemistry Department on the death of their son.

However, the parents have expressed dissatisfaction with the clarification which has been given by the Health Ministry.

“We are not totally pleased and happy with the explanation. To date, an air of mystery is surrounded over the death of my precious son. We in fact did question YB (Khairy) on what’s the cause of my son’s death and to my surprise he replied that he doesn’t know the reason, Vijayarani told CodeBlue in an interview yesterday.

Having said that, Klang MP Charles Santiago and Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar have urged the forensic specialists for a “comprehensive and detailed probe” of the post-mortem report.

“I propose that the post-mortem report be thoroughly scrutinised by a special task force of unbiased professionals.  Perhaps, this  would allow other parents and the public confidence to vaccinate their children against Covid,” Charles said in his debate on the motion of thanks at the royal address in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday (8th March 2022).

Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah also called for the immediate issuance of Revnesh’s post-mortem report so parents can be convinced that vaccines are safe for children.

According to Vijayarani, Dr Emizam Mohamadon, the forensic specialist who conducted her son’s post-mortem, also attended the 30-minute meeting. The forensic expert has indicated that their son’s organs and cells were in great condition, but that the cause of death remained unknown.

“If the Milo that he drank that morning was able to be detected during the post-mortem, then why wasn’t the cause of death not identified? The forensic expert also explained to us that the tissue on the wall beneath his heart was hard,” said Vijayarani.

“Khairy said there was no infection and it was not because of Covid-19. My 13-year-old son had no medical history. So what is the cause of his death? We want to know that.”

Moreover, Dr Noor Hisham has also added on by stating that the side effects of COVID-19 vaccine should be experienced in 48-hours.

During a press conference last Wednesday, the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) pharmacovigilance division head Dr Azuana Ramli stated that side effects from COVID-19 vaccines usually occurs within 30 days. NPRA did not categorise Revnesh’s death as a case of serious adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) with the coronavirus vaccine.
