E. Ramasamy and A. Mahendran were among the victims who perished at the landslide in Taman Bukit Permai, Ampang. The family members have confirmed the identities of the deceased at Ampang hospital.
“We have classified their deaths as sudden death and post-mortem examinations will be conducted at the Forensic Department of Hospital Ampang,” said Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak at the scene here Friday (March 11).
According to Angeozeel Andrew, he heard a loud sound similar to thunder before the lorry of his friend was driving was fully covered in a heap of mud as the landslide struck.
He said his colleague, Mahendran, was among Air Selangor workers dispatched to the area to conduct maintenance work around 4.30pm, reported New Straits Times.
For family members of Mahendran, his sister, A. Devi, realised about the incident about 10pm. Upon receiving the shocking news, Devi called his brother’s superior and he has confirmed the news of her brother was among the victims buried in the landslide. The 36-year-old victim leaves behind a wife and a nine-year-old son.
Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has also stated the families of four people killed in Ampang’s landslide will be given RM10,000 each from the Selangor government.
