This year, Panguni Uthiram, which falls on March 18th, is celebrated to honour Lord Muruga. This day is celebrated enthusiastically not only in Tamilnadu but all across the world.

Panguni Uthiram also marks several divine marriages which took place on this auspicious day:

  • Lord Muruga married Devasena
  • Lord Shiva married Lord Parvathy
  • Goddess Maha Lakshmi married Vishnu
  • Wedding day of Lord Rama and Goddess Seetha
  • The union of Lord Rangamannar and the poet Andal

Besides that, this day marks Lord Ayyappa’s birthday. Lord Ayyappan is believed to have been born due to the union of Lord Shiva and Mohini and this day is celebrated as Lord Ayyappan Jayanti to mark his birthday.

Hence, this is a special day for celestial weddings and all Murugan temples are celebrated on this auspicious day.

Significant Rituals On Panguni Uthiram

There are some rituals that take place during this holy day. Prayers and rituals are performed during the Panguni Uthiram which is said to help resolve problems arising in your relationship. They also bring you good luck and enhance love among partners.

The devotees will be on a strict fast as well and they will recite prayers and special chants like Kanda Shashti Kavasam, Kanda Puranam, and more.

On this day, Paal Kudam and various Kavadis are carried by devotees.
