The Save Soil Movement is an opportunity for the media to take stewardship in reshaping the ecological trajectory of our planet and in many ways saving the Human Race itself from extinction. Because if soil becomes extinct, so will we. This is not a prophecy. History tells us that several civilizations of the past have perished because of soil degradation including the Mayans and Mesopotamians.
This is not about creating fear but about creating awareness. It’s not about bringing people on to the streets or about protesting and agitating. It is not a Movement against anyone or anything. It is solely about bringing attention to the issue of soil extinction and highlighting the urgent need to address it. Effective communication about this grave existential threat is the most critical need of the hour.
It is safe to say that most people have not heard of soil extinction and know nothing about its catastrophic impact. This must change. Everyone who lives on this planet is nourished by soil, so every citizen of the world must become an equal and invested stakeholder in this race to Save Soil. We really don’t have a choice.
With its advantage of mass reach, the media is best placed to shape this movement into a true global people’s movement :
- by ensuring sustained focus on the issue of soil extinction
- by disseminating relevant and accurate information to its readers and inspiring them to use their franchise to press for policy changes to Save Soil in their nations
As Sadhguru says, “ecological issues must become election issues.”
For this to happen, citizens must understand what is the most dire ecological challenge facing their nation. That challenge today- for all nations- is soil extinction. As critical as the challenge is, it also offers the best opportunity to rally the world behind a unifying cause – for what can be more critical than saving the Human Race? This is our opportunity to rise above every other consideration – of race, religion, geography, gender, ideology and ethnicity – and respond as one Humanity to this existential challenge.
