Two loves at once, Kaathuvakula Rendu Kaadhal, is something that happens rather frequently these days, and while not everyone agrees with this approach, Vijay Sethupathi is adamant that his love for these two ladies, Nayanthara and Samantha, is fair.
Ranjankudi Anbarasu Murugesa Boopathy Oohoondhiran aka Rambo, is born into a family that believes they will die if they marry. Although back then, Rambo’s father married Minah Kaif and defied society, only to die on the same day Rambo was born. Rambo believes that, because of his father’s death and mother’s sickness, he is the unluckiest person on the planet, or at least that’s how society portrays him.
This movie demonstrates how society’s mindset can shift in a split second simply by absorbing the actual sight in front of them. This spreads from person to person, eventually becoming the social norm.
Rambo, as a child believed he is so cursed and if he gets too close to his sick mother, he will kill her. As a result, he flees his village and tries to stay as far away from his mother as possible. He keeps in touch with his aunt, Idhayakala, the morattu single, on a regular basis to check on her health.
Years pass, and Rambo still refuses to visit his village for fear of losing his mother, and neither his aunts nor uncles marry during that time.
Rambo is now in his 30s, still single, and has high hopes for what his mother mentioned before she became gravely ill. “When it rains, it pours,” she says, implying that his jinx will vanish one day and that whatever he has missed throughout his life will be doubled.
On Vinayaka Cathurthi, he meets two women: Nayanthara during the day and Samantha at night. Both women eventually fall in love with Vijay Sethupathi, who chooses to love the TWO!
In this film, Samantha and Nayanthara are shown to be his angels who bring him luck because whatever curse that left him had returned after the TWO so-called had a breakup with Rambo.
Rambo will spend the entire film proving how much he loves them and how much they mean to him, which will bore not just Kanmani and Kathija, but also the audience.
This film scores well on the comedy than the romantic scenes.
VJS nailed it in his bland facial expressions in serious scenes which effectively created humour but the one who took the award was Redin Kingsley. He just does it so effortlessly. Nayan and Sam had equal screen space too to excel in their respective roles which was a breath of fresh air.
There were polls like Team Kanmani and Team Kathija that boosted the promotions, therefore having actresses like Nayanthara and Samantha was a good save for the film. Both of them flaunting their beauty is sure to be a visual delight. Also, Anirudh’s music in this film deserves special note, particularly the song “Rendu Kaadhal.” It was a lovely arrangement that had melancholy passages of the KRK’s feelings. The romance was literally felt on all the tracks and the back ground music (bgm) was on point.
Overall, KRK was a little bit predictable but nevertheless it did its job of keeping the cinema goers glued to their seats throughout the movie . Anirudh’s music and a natural laugh out loud comedy for the fans is a definite win for this movie.
