Up The Ranks: Captain Rajalingam & Tan Sri Dr. Palan Are Making Big Waves In Malaysia

Malaysian maritime giant shipping, MISC has recently announced the new appointment of Captain Rajalingam Subramaniam as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) replacing the current group president and CEO Yee Yang Chien, effective from 1st Oct 2022. 

With an array of accolades to his name, the 56-year-old began his career at sea and came ashore in 1996 and has since held various positions in the MISC group, which included various posts such as vice president, fleet management services of MISC in 2008 before being appointed as the president and CEO of AET Tanker Holdings Sdn Bhd in 2016. 

According to MMS, besides serving as the group chief operating officer since February this year,  Rajalingam serves the global marine industry in various positions, including as a board member of Gard P&I and an executive committee member of the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners. 

Having said that, it came to our surprise that he is also honorary commander in the Royal Malaysian Navy, a position he has held since 2009. Perhaps he was also awarded the National Seafarers Icon 2017 by Malaysia Marine Department and 2018 Tanker Shipping & Trade Industry Leader Recognition.

On the other hand, University Malaya Specialist Centre (UMSC) announced the appointment of its new chairman, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. R. Palan effective from 1st June 2022. 

According to Cyberjaya University’s official website, he began his career as a lecturer in management studies and subsequently became a management trainer. A former corporate trainer, he has authored over 15 books and numerous articles to date. In 2016, he was conferred the prestigious Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM) which carries the honorary title “Tan Sri” from the Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah at Istana Negara.
