Be aware, you are in the scammer’s ring!
The dangers of scams are constantly increasing and becoming more sophisticated, as they employ a range of strategies and lies to persuade you, the public, to show that they are legitimate.
Scammers are preying on people of all ages, genders, education levels, and economic levels, with new methods for deceiving bank account customers into disclosing or installing malware on their devices that are costing people a lot of money and putting them in a lot of trouble.
According to Bernama, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) have teamed up with all licensed banks in the need to adopt strong security standards, notably for internet and mobile banking services, which includes security reviews and advisories on a regular basis.
They must adhere to the advisories issued by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) such as enhancing existing controls, ensuring adequate protection against latest threats, and maintaining efficient services for customers.
Bank Negara Malaysia has been working with the police, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commissions (MCMC), and the financial industry to coordinate efforts in combating financial fraud and scams, as well as raise public awareness about emerging fraud strategies.
These efforts will promote the recovery of embezzled money as well as fast and successful investigations by appropriate law enforcement agencies in order to assure more effective preventive measures.
To prevent from further risk of scams, the public are wisely advised to:
- Be cautious when downloading any files or application to mobile devices from unknown sources.
- Keep up to date of emerging threats.
- Take precautions to ensure their safety.

If you encounter any fraudulent activities involving bank accounts, account holders must immediately:
- Notify banks.
- Contact Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) Scam Response Centre at 03-2610 1559 / 1599 or BNMTELELINK at 1-300-88-5465
- Lodge a police report to facilitate investigation.
BNM demands all licensed banks to offer effective communication and fair restitution for customers who have been taking necessary precautions to safeguard themselves. Banks that have not taken appropriate efforts to protect consumers or have failed to comply with relevant legislation will face supervisory and enforcement actions.
Never give your personal information, including financial statement to any unfamiliar individual who approaches you in person or via a mobile device, and learn to say no if you are unsure.
