Kshama Bindhu’s Sologamy Sets An Example Of Self-Love

This proves that self-love has no limits!

For the past few weeks, an Indian woman’s marriage has been the topic of conversation on social media. She is the first Indian lady to embrace “sologamy“, which means a person who intends to marry themselves.

Many people have different viewpoints, with some applauding of her decision and others backlashing her. Well, its not our job to judge someone’s decision.

No one is urging you to get a sologamy, but you should consider going on any length to prioritise yourself.

What’s astonishing is that she took the courage to extend her self-love to that limit which most would never have thought about.

“I never wanted to get married. I did, however, want to be a bride. As a result I made the decision to marry myself” said Kshama Bindu.

The 24-year-old declared on social media that she would marry herself on June 11 at a temple, and that she planned for a priest to solemnise the marriage in Indian wedding tradition, but unfortunately had to revise her plans after the priest backed out.

Despite the difficulties and the opposition she faced, she did not give up on her aspirations. She quickly devised alternate ideas, such as holding the wedding at her home with a small gathering of family and friends in the manner she desired.

“Self marriage is a vow to always be there for yourself and to love yourself unconditionally. It is also a self-acceptance act. People marry the person they love. I love myself, which is why I’m getting married”. – Kshama Bindu

The woman’s dream wedding included her putting on a dazzling red lehenga with matching jewels and beautiful garlands that made her look like a princess, as well as the presence of the holy fire where she performed a circumambulation, performed puja, took seven vows written by herself, and finished by knotting ‘mangal sutra’ around her neck and applying vermillion on her forehead as a newly wed bride.

The groom and the priest missed out from her wedding, supposedly was destined to be.

The whole point of the Gujarat woman deciding to have a sologamy marriage was to break stereotypes and inspire those who are tired of looking for genuine love, as well as to show that women do not have to marry to be a “wife”, but can just enjoy the experience of being a bride.

Her parents’ blessings were with her throughout the process as they were so supportive of their bisexual daughter. It did not end with the wedding, as the woman wanted to celebrate the occasion with a honeymoon in Goa, because why not?

Happy married life, Kshama Bindu! Glad to see she made a decision that makes her happy.

We do not have to debate whether this is right or wrong, instead, we can use it as an example or motivation ourselves on how self-love should be valued. Most of us are disappointed that those around us do not accept us as we are, but the truth is no one has to because, at the end of the day, we are the only ones who have us.

So, stop worrying about others and start loving yourself by doing things that make you comfortable and happy.
