Indian food is know for its aromatic spices and cooked to perfection with the fusion of flavours that tantalise our taste buds. And did you know, Indian cuisine is perhaps one of the oldest in the world. Ever wondered what makes a perfect Indian meal? What is that secret ingredient one might ask. Hence, Indian food has been classified into six tastes known as ARUSUVAI in Tamil.

Let’s find out what are these six tastes all about;

This is why obesity, diabetes, hemorrhage, breast cancer, and many other heart diseases are on the rise. Now, let’s look at the health secrets hidden in the six flavors of our traditional cuisine that our ancestors created to maintain our health.

PUNGENT (SPICY)

Adding a small amount of spice to the diet can help increase emotions. Spiciness act to increase the rate of metabolism in the body and the formation of heat.

This process uses energy and burns calories. If the spiciness is increased : body temperature will rise too.

BITTERNESS

The bitterness helps to detoxify the body. Bitterness can also boost the body’s energy, and enhances fitness.

Bitterness improves digestion, stimulate appetites, and digestive fluids in the pancreas.

SWEETNESS

Sweetness will nourish the muscles of the body.

Remember! Sweetness with a limit is more important.

SOURNESS

Sour is the removal of dirt that has accumulated in the bloodstream. How many of you like to eat sour food?

Sourness also increases appetite, helps digestion and produces saliva.

ASTRINGENT

Astringents can help purify the blood.

SALTY

Salt is much important in a dish. We cannot taste any food without salt. This, in turn, increases memory. It also gives skin a glow. However. too much salt can cause inflammation in the body.

Malaysians need to practice a healthier lifestyle include changing their diet to a much wholesome one which is advisable to include the six tastes that have detailed above. For longevity, try making Indian cuisine part of your daily diet.

Over the years, an unhealthy diet has contributed to obesity, diabetes, hemorrhage, breast cancer, and many other heart diseases.
