Everyone would agree that going to a temple improves their mood and purifies their heart and mind. Have any of you ever wondered how it happens, though? Well, there are always scientific explanations for these traditions.

It is natural sense to take off our shoes in a sacred space, yet scientifically temples are full of magnetic vibrations and electric fields with positive energy. In old times, temples were designated so that the floor in the heart of the structure served as an powerful conductor of these beneficial vibrations, allowing them to reach our bodies through our feet. So, when entering the core of temple, it is important to walk barefoot.

Lighting camphor

Usually, the centre of the temple, where the idol is located is dark. When you pray you would see the camphor lighted for for the Aarthi in front of the idol. That is when your sense of sight is activated by the light seen inside the darkness. Following the offering of prayer, you often put your hands over the camphor to make them warm before touching your eyes. Your touch sense will be engaged thanks to this activity.

Applying Sacred Ash

One of the body’s key nerve points is located on the forehead, between the two brows, The “vibuthi” or “kumkum” is regarded as sacred ash and is thought to hold energy in the body and regulate many levels of absorption. The “Ajna-chakra” are activated when applying the holy ash, which improves the flow of blood to the face muscles.

Drinking holy water

Commonly, after prayer there would be offering of “theertham” from priest. The holy water was preserved for hours in a copper vessel and contains milk or water dipped in Thulasi leaves. As per Ayurveda, water kept in a copper vessel has the power to balance three doshas (vata, kapha, and pitta) in your body by positively charging in the water. Your taste buds would be stimulated by drinking it from copper vessel. Additionally it could treat various health issues like fever, cough, sore throat, etc.

You must perform “pradakshina”, or walk around the idol inside the temple chamber, in a clockwise direction, after you have finished worshipping in the core of temple. The idol inside the chamber absorbs all the heat, sound, and positive energy vibrations for a predetermined amount of time. When doing pradakshina, you tend to soak up all the positive vibrations.

Over this, elders constantly advise us to visit the temple often and to perform the rituals. Now that you understand the cause of your extreme happy sentiments after visiting the temple, you will do those practices with more insight.
