Entering the film industry is a noble goal, and pursuing it takes a lot of guts. There is a vast variety of filmmakers working on unique scripts in Tamil cinema, and they are a source of pride for the business.

Many filmmakers have experienced failure with their debut project before finding success with subsequent works. However, there aren’t many directors in the same field that released a blockbuster with their first effort.

Let’s take a look at the list of the most well-known actors who turned as filmmakers and whose debut films were a blockbuster success.

Madhavan

The charming star Madhavan turned director with his ambitious biopic Rocketry.

The Indian biographical film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect is based on the life of Nambi Narayanan, a former aerospace engineer, and scientist with the Indian Space Research Organization who was charged with espionage. In addition to co-starring with Simran in the character of Nambi Narayanan, R. Madhavan also wrote and directed the film.

Rohini

The Ace actress made her directorial debut with Appavin Meesai in 2014.

Appavin meesai movie depicts a 14-year-old who lost his father and is forced to leave school and find work in a far-off city. Despite all the chances against him, he is determined to keep looking for his thief and not go home until he does.

Dhanush

After making a name as an actor, Dhanush turned to his long-term direction dream with Power Pandi.

Power Paandi is someone who frequently gets involved in social causes. When one of these causes turns into a police investigation, his son reprimands him, and he then chooses to take a bike journey, which introduces him to his first love Poondhendral (Revathi). The narrative shifts to a flashback, with the remaining chapters filled with humor and feeling.

There are many parts of the Kanchana movie, where the first part depicts a regular unemployed young person, Raghava spends his days playing cricket with pals. To play cricket, Raghava and his buddies move to an abandoned field that is rumored to be cursed.

Suhasini Manirathnam

Amidst acting in different languages, Suhasini made her first film as director with Indira in 1995.

The film revolves around a group of villagers from Maranur, India, and their clash with a neighbor village leader, as their community begins to prosper. Soon money and greed threaten a will for peaceful coexistence between the two rival communities.

Kamal Haasan

The legendary actor made his directorial debut with the timeless classic ‘Hey Ram’ in 2000.

This fictional Indian movie tells the story of Saketh Ram (Kamal Hassan), a disillusioned man who tries to kill Mohandas Gandhi (Naseeruddin Shah). After sectarian violence claims the life of his wife, Aparna (Rani Mukharjee), Saketh becomes a Hindu extremist, and, although Muslims are responsible for his wife’s death, he begins to blame Gandhi and his tolerant approach to religious differences. Concerned only with his idea of vengeance, Saketh is consumed with hatred and zealotry.

It would take more than one list to adequately describe our noteworthy debut directors. Which of the above films by a debut director is your favorite, by the way?
