Climate change? Greenhouse gas emissions? Environmental impact? Does this sound familiar? I am aware that you are familiar with these words. These must have been broadcast on television, or your course materials must have already given you a briefing on them.
Nowadays, no home without an air conditioner or a cooler is exempt from this increasing generation’s requirements. When we begin to perspire heavily, we immediately turn on the air conditioner which could lead to global warming and also an increase in electricity bills.
Meet young inventors of SJKT Rawang ; namely Vyshnavi Vaneah Nithiananthan, 12, and her friends, Yhuvhen Vijaya Vikneswaran and Kanniesh Theeran Kannigeswaran, both 11 and creators of the successful Ayurvedic Air Cooler.
Their invention bagged the Gold Award and Best Invention Award (Junior Category — Science and Technology cluster) at the 2nd International Research Invention, Innovation and Exhibition recently.
Ayurvedic air cooler? Yes! Sounds interesting, isn’t it?
Recently, Varnam My had the pleasure to catch up with their mentor
Maheshwaran Jayaraman, 46, is a former engineer.
Maheshwaran Jayaraman is the one who established the Rainbow Technical and Science Development Academy with his wife to teach children basic technical skills. Sharing his experience and emotions towards these young inventors achievement; the proud mentor was ecstatic.
“To be quite honest, I was amazed when these youngsters came up with this concept and, at the same time, I was eager to conduct the experiment. I simply agree with their proposal and let the experimentation process continue without raising any issues. Even though it appears a little difficult, I admired the goal of the proposal and started to design it”, quoted Maheswaran.
Your air conditioner is making you cooler, and the world warmer. We can change that.
When asked why the concept came up, Maheswaran responded that it did so because one of the inventors, Vyshnavi, overheard her father complaining about their family’s high electricity costs as a result of their constant usage of air conditioners.
In light of that, the young girl was willing to create a portable air cooler that will lower the amount of electricity used with the help of friends and their mentor.
Maheswaran also said, “we found the process to be quite challenging because the children are still learning and are still in the early stages of R&D, they frequently destroy electronic modules and components. And we had to adjust the design of the air cooler at the last minute”.
“Although they could only work on the project after school hours, the trio’s determination is something we appreciate. After 2 months of struggle, these youngsters made it”
In response to a question regarding the supplies utilized in this experiment, he also stated that 80% of the supplies were gathered from scrap PC, Air-conditioning, and things discovered around the house. Meanwhile, 20% were the electronic modules which include a 12V, thermoelectric motor.
Out Of All Names, why “Ayurvedic Air Cooler”?
This is because they included fresh herbs like neem, lemongrass, and, eucalyptus that serve as natural air purifiers in the air cooler.
The proud Indian mentor showed his satisfaction and enthusiasm as he told us that this project was a huge success for us because the ayurvedic air cooler was something that worked right out of the box and had a motion sensor, which caused the cooler to shut off when it detected no activity nearby. This is something that can aid parents because it will keep kids on their toes. Parents can place it in study areas.
Children can take it wherever they want since it is a portable air cooler. Since the device may run on batteries or when linked to a power source, it can be utilized both inside and outside.
Nice, right?
Maheswaran informed Varnam My that they wish to continue with the project to enhance and fine-tune the system when inquired about their future plans.
Congratulations on your success Kudos and Rainbow Technical and Science Development Academy, and good luck on your future endeavors.
