Following the murder of a Malaysian teen’s newborn baby in February 2022 and a three-month-old infant brutally murdered in JB in April, the rate of infant homicide has risen above 37% and has not stopped since.

In the Sungai Siput magistrates’ court yesterday, a 30-year-old mother was charged in connection with the murder of an eight-month-old infant boy last week. T. Rebekal nodded in agreement as the charge was read to her in front of magistrate Nurul Asfiya Redzuan.

J. S. Melvin Jeshuran was allegedly murdered at a residence in Kampung Muhibbah in Sungai Siput at 6 pm on 24th July by the mother, a nurse who works at a private hospital.

She was accused of murder in accordance with Section 302 of the Penal Code, a crime that, if found guilty, carries a mandatory death sentence. There were no recorded pleas since the High Court had jurisdiction over the case.

RS Vitthiyeswary, a deputy public prosecutor, handled the prosecution while attorney Nahtan Krishnan represented the defense.

As the court scheduled the case for hearing on 3rd October, let’s await and see what verdict will be rendered in this case.
