Stop Asking Married Woman About Pregnancy Matters

“When are you going to have a baby?” Stop!

Some women can choose not to have kids. And some women cannot have kids even if they want to.

“ It’s been 5 years since you tied the knot, when are you having a baby”

This could be the most familiar yet intrusive question that married women are often asked. Motherhood is deemed necessary by society to “complete” a woman once she gets married.

What people frequently overlook is the necessity to respect a woman’s right to choose to have a child or not. PERIOD…Meanwhile, there are also a lot of women who fail to get pregnant due to fertility issues. And pestering them constantly for pregnancy can only add to their emotional and mental stress.

It’s 2022. Can we please get out of this archake way of thinking?

Of course, expecting a baby is indeed a piece of great news in a woman’s life. The amount of joyfulness that the mom-to-be will experience can be just speechless. However, all the good news leading up to finding out about the pregnancy and declaring it are private moments; solely for you, your spouse, and whoever you wish to share your joy with.

Then why do the surrounding people, relatives, friends, society – even those who don’t even know your name to those who have never spoken more than two sentences with you – make it a point to hurl this question at you?

If women on this app gave you their fertility issues, their miscarriages, their IVF heartaches, their blocked Fallopian tubes tales, the endometriosis pain, their ovarian cysts drama, their polyps woes, you would cease asking women why don’t they have children yet – Nairobi, Kenya

To a woman yet to bear a child after being married for a while, such a question would make her feel very inadequate.

So, the writer would like to remind one to spare a moment to think before hurting a soul who might be facing a silent yearning to experience motherhood.

It is time one stops romanticising pregnancy and addresses the actual problems that hinder women from getting pregnant even if they want to. Health issues related to pregnancy are real, and nagging a woman to get pregnant is not right at any cost.
